How to buy a new tennis racket?

I will teach you what you need to know to buy a new tennis racket. -NO wal mart, big 5, or other cheap rackets -Don’t use an oversize racket unless you are an old person or you don’t care about improving. -Buy your racket on ebay, a pro shop, tenniswarehouse.com, or another sports store as long as you have done research already and demoed the racket. – Your strings are what make contact with the ball so get decent strings. I recommend synthetic gut for beginners. For more advanced players, make sure to get hybrid strings. I prefer a polyester string on the mains (verticals) and syn gut on crosses (horizontal). -The side of the racket should have recommended string tensions. (it usually says something like 55 +/- 5lbs. that means that you should string it between 50 and 60 lbs. The tighter your strings are the more control you have, but the looser the strings are the more powerful your strings are. I suggest new players start stringing around the middle of the recommendation and more advanced players string to the maximum tension. If you have any questions just let me know and i will try to help you.

@shawnspeed3 great comment. I agree with you 100%/ I have never demoed one online but it does sound like a hassle. A local pro shop would be the best idea if it is in your area. Unfortunately there aren’t any around my area :(

From my experience, the BEST way to buy the right racquet is to “demo” from a reputable local tennis shop! DO NOT buy cheap ones from department stores or Big 5, etc. Local shops are more helpful and they play tennis themselves. They take pride in what they sell and offer unmatched knowledge. I switched to Babolat Roddick GT+ after trying everything for $25 fee. It applies to purchase and well worth it! Don’t demo from online stores cause it’s a hassle! Support your local vendors…

@Ieetbabies1 hahahahahahha. when in doubt by a blx 95.
I just don’t see the point in buying a blx when k factor feels almost the exact same and the ncode also feels almost the exact same.

  7. Ieetbabies1 says:

Torrey this is awful. Real men use the BLX 95, no matter their skill level.
